Hyderabad witnessed a bi-polar contest between the Congress and BJP in the recent elections, with an estimated voter turnout of 73%. The BRS, which had previously won 33 Assembly seats, faced a tough battle this time. Analysts predict a possible change in the political landscape with uncertain outcomes.

One of the most interesting contests was for the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat, where AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and BJP’s Madhavi Latha clashed. The transfer of BRS votes to other parties will be crucial in determining the final results. Additionally, a case was registered against Madhavi Latha for allegedly checking the identity of burqa-clad women voters.

Polling also took place in the Secunderabad Cantonment assembly constituency due to the unfortunate passing of sitting BRS MLA G Lasya Nanditha in a road accident. Despite BJP’s historical strength in urban areas, they seemed to make significant progress in rural regions this time.

The overall voter turnout in Telangana is expected to be around 69%, with urban areas like Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and Malkajgiri showing lower participation. Technical issues with EVMs and reports of missing votes were prevalent throughout the state. However, no major law and order problems were reported.

Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj expressed optimism about the polling percentages compared to previous elections. Tragically, two Polling Officers passed away due to heart attacks while on duty in Hyderabad and Khammam Lok Sabha segments. Adequate medical facilities were provided at polling stations to address any emergencies.
