With the general elections approaching, voluntary organisations are working hard to encourage first-time voters to cast their votes. They are using innovative campaigns like musical events and walkathons to spread awareness.
These organisations, along with officials from the Election Commission of India, are conducting awareness programmes. They are organizing musical contests, putting up informative posters in residential areas and schools, and staging plays to emphasize the importance of voting. Volunteers are visiting schools, gated communities, and using social media to raise awareness. Residential welfare associations are also trying to boost voter turnout in their neighborhoods.
Arun Daniel Yellamaty, founder of Youngistaan Foundation, is visiting educational institutions to talk to young voters about voting. The organization recently collaborated with the National Service Scheme (NSS) of MGIT to hold a town hall event called ‘World’s Largest Festival of Democracy’ to discuss the role of youth in elections.
Election Watch state convener VV Rao aims to increase voter turnout and educate people on the importance of voting. They are visiting summer camps to reach out to children who can then encourage their parents to vote. The ‘Let’s Vote’ campaign members are organizing runs and talks on voting rights and ethical voting, with a big awareness campaign planned in Malkajgiri parliamentary constituency.
Representatives from the Forum for Good Governance are visiting colleges to motivate students to vote. They are also putting up posters in residential areas to raise awareness about voting.
