Various political parties and their supporters in Malkajgiri parliamentary constituency are focusing on winning the upcoming general election by targeting different communities. One such community is the Tamil community, which has a significant number of voters in this area. Leaders are working hard to attract these voters.
According to GHMC data, there are a total of 31,83,325 voters in Malkajgiri parliamentary constituency, with Tamil voters making up around 2% of the total. This translates to approximately 65,000 voters based on the 2011 Census, but currently, there are likely around 95,000 Tamil voters in the constituency.
The Tamil-speaking voters are located in various areas like Jawaharnagar, Yapral, Trimulgherry, and more. Traditionally, Tamils in the city have supported the Congress party, but in the last general elections, many voted for Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and other parties. This time, however, the community feels neglected and their demands have not been met.
Local leaders predict a tough competition between Congress and BJP in the upcoming election. All parties have started their campaign, particularly targeting the Tamil community, which plays a crucial role in electing leaders.
Candidates from Congress, BJP, and BRS are engaging with community leaders to seek their support. Recently, BJP candidate Eatala Rajender and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy reached out to Tamil community members for support. Congress candidate Patnam Sunitha Mahender Reddy is also seeking support from the community.
The president of Telangana Tamil Sangam expressed disappointment over the neglect of their community by political parties. They have not received support for their demands, like land for constructing Tamil Bhavan. The community plans to support candidates who fulfill their promises this time.
The secretary of Telangana Tamil Sangam highlighted the contributions of the community to the development of Secunderabad and emphasized the need for a strong leader who can work for both constituency development and community support.
