A part of an under-construction bridge in Peddapalli district collapsed on Monday night, but luckily no one was hurt. The incident happened in Odedu village of Mutharam mandal when two girders fell due to strong winds. Thankfully, it occurred late at night when no one was around.
Villagers reported the collapse to the police on Tuesday. The bridge, which is about a kilometre long, has been in progress since 2016. It was meant to connect Odedu to Garmillapalli village in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district.
The construction had faced delays because of changes in contractors, lack of funds, and other issues. Local residents had been using a temporary road under the bridge for transportation.
The foundation stone for the bridge was laid in 2016 with an estimated cost of Rs 47.40 crore and a target completion date of one year. Once finished, the bridge was supposed to shorten the distance between Manthani and Parakal, as well as Bhupalpally and Jammikunta towns by around 50 kilometers.
