There is a high demand for water tankers this summer in Hyderabad, compared to last year. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) is planning to launch an application to track these tankers in order to monitor them effectively.

Officials from the Hyderabad Water Board state that this app will help in monitoring the vehicles and act as a data bank. A trial run is currently underway, and the app will be launched soon. A tender was recently posted on the Water Board’s official website, seeking design proposals, development, and maintenance of the tool that will integrate with existing tanker and customer applications.

The centralized tanker request handling system already exists, providing information on local filling stations and tanker availability. With the new application, customers can easily book tankers, while drivers can record responses and locate their position. This tracker will also be used for non-domestic trips and allow customers to log complaints and track various issues related to tanker operations.

In preparation for the app launch, tanker drivers and Water Board staff will receive training through the HMWSSB Play Store account. Currently, the Water Board has over 600 tankers delivering water throughout the city. Due to declining groundwater levels, there has been an increase in demand for tankers this summer. Plans are in place to acquire 150 additional tankers and establish more filling stations in high-demand areas.
