The Election Commission of India (ECI) told social media platform X to remove some posts by YSR Congress and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu for breaking the rules.
The ECI sent orders on April 2 and 3, and an email on April 10, asking X to take down four posts reported by the parties. The posts contained political speech from politicians and parties running for office.
The ECI found that the posts broke the model code of conduct by criticizing other parties based on private life or sharing unverified information.
X agreed to remove the posts for the rest of the election period, but disagreed with the ECI’s actions. They believe in freedom of expression and want the ECI to share all takedown orders in the future.
