In Khammam, the TDP’s decision on whom to support in the upcoming Parliament elections could determine who wins the seat. In the recent Assembly elections, the TDP supported Congress, but in Andhra Pradesh, the TDP formed alliances with the BJP and Janasena. Now, as the Parliament elections approach in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, it is unclear whom the TDP will support.
Both the BJP and BRS candidates have approached TDP officials in Khammam seeking support. The BJP has declared candidates for all 17 seats in the state, but they have not specified their partnerships. In the past, the BJP and Janasena ran together in Telangana’s Assembly elections without success.
Historically, the TDP has been strong in Khammam, so forming an alliance with them is crucial for major political parties. The TDP had secured two Assembly seats in the BRS wave elections of 2014. Leaders of the TDP in Khammam are receiving support from Congress, BJP, and BRS candidates in the upcoming elections.
The TDP has not issued any directives on supporting the BJP or other parties. The party’s average vote-bank share in Khammam district was 15%, and 20% in the town. The affiliations between BJP and TDP in Andhra Pradesh may not apply in Telangana, according to the general secretary of the State TDP. They will follow party chief N Chandra Babu’s directions in the LS polls.
