In Hyderabad, the Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board stated that there is enough water in the Nagarjunasagar and Srisailam reservoirs to meet the city’s drinking water needs this summer. They assured that there will be no issues with water supply.

To provide drinking water to residents within the GHMC limits up to ORR, the HMWSSB is transferring 270 MGD of water daily from Nagarjunasagar reservoir and Akkampally balancing reservoir through the Krishna project phases 1, 2, and 3. This amounts to 1.38 tmcft per month.

As of March 12, the water storage capacity of Nagarjunasagar is 138.73 tmcft (514.10 feet), with 7.06 tmcft available above the dead storage level. Despite lower levels compared to last year, there is still enough water for the city’s needs.

The HMWS&SB currently supplies 565 MGD daily and anticipates needing an additional 15-20 MGD. Emergency pumping arrangements are being made to ensure an adequate water supply until July-end when the reservoir level is expected to reach 510 ft.

Preparations are also underway to utilize excess water from Osmansagar and Himayatsagar reservoirs as needed. Singur and Manjira reservoirs have satisfactory reserves, further ensuring a steady drinking water supply for Hyderabad residents. The HMWS&SB has urged city consumers not to worry about water shortages.
