The Communist Party of India (CPI) is campaigning for the Warangal Lok Sabha (SC reserved) seat ahead of the upcoming Parliament elections. CPI National General Secretary D Raja and National Council Member Rama Krushna Panda met with Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi to request the Warangal Lok Sabha seat as part of the INDIA pact.

Kharge mentioned that a decision regarding this request will be made after consulting with Rahul Gandhi, who is currently on a political tour. The CPI is eager to contest in the Warangal Lok Sabha constituency and is confident in its chances due to its strong presence in the region, particularly through its Bhu Poratam (struggle for land) activities and affiliations with unions like Singareni, LIC, and Banking.

The party has selected 55-year-old B R Lenin, a seasoned journalist with nearly thirty years of experience, as its candidate for the seat. Lenin follows in the footsteps of his father, B R Bhagawan Das, a renowned Communist leader who advocated for trade unions in the area. CPI State secretariat member Takkalapally Srinivas Rao believes that Lenin’s family legacy and experience will give him an advantage over other candidates.

Lenin has been actively involved in various movements, especially as a leader of journalist unions. He played a significant role in the Statehood Movement of Telangana and has a history of supporting those in need, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently serving as the Vice President of the Telangana Union of Working Journalists (TUWJ), Lenin has also held leadership positions in journalist unions in the Warangal district under the united Andhra Pradesh state.
