The State government has announced a scheme to waive 90% of accumulated arrears interest on property tax dues until the financial year 2022-2023. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is launching a campaign to encourage property owners to pay their tax arrears by March 31.

To assist with property tax assessments, court cases, and other tax-related matters, the GHMC will hold ‘Property Tax Parishkarams’ (PTPs) every Sunday. Property owners must clear the principal amount of property tax dues up to 2022-23, along with 10% interest on accumulated arrears, to avail of the waiver.

The GHMC Commissioner, Ronald Rose, emphasized the importance of property owners paying their taxes under this scheme. Owners can pay at citizen service centers, bill collectors, MeeSeva, online, or through mobile apps.

In the financial year 2022-23, various zones within Hyderabad collected significant amounts in property taxes. The target for the financial year 2023-24 is Rs 2,100 crore, with Rs 1,268.49 crore collected until January 2024.

The GHMC will promote the One Time Scheme through media campaigns and advertisements to ensure property owners are aware of the opportunity to reduce their tax arrears. ‘Property Tax Parishkarams’ will be held at all circle offices on Sundays in March.

Overall, the GHMC is working to increase property tax compliance and support property owners in clearing their dues through this new scheme and outreach efforts.
