BRS working president K T Rama Rao announced a protest called “Chalo Medigadda” on March 1. He believes there is a conspiracy behind the delayed repair of damaged piers at the Medigadda barrage and other parts of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS).

Rao spoke at a news conference at Telangana Bhavan, accusing the government of purposely neglecting the needed repairs to the Medigadda project. He also criticized the government for ignoring seepage issues at the Annaram barrage, potentially causing damage during the monsoon season.

The government’s delays in repairing these structures are seen as an attempt to downplay the benefits of the project, which aims to provide water to water-starved regions of the State. Rao also mentioned that plans to expand the project’s water capacity have been put on hold.

The protest, “Chalo Medigadda,” will involve all party elected representatives visiting the project site. Media teams will also be included in this mission to document the situation. Rao emphasized the urgent need for a coffer dam to support the sagging structure and resume water pumping for irrigation.

Rao warned that if the government does not act sincerely and quickly, it could harm the farming community and delay irrigation support for the Kharif ayacut. He urged the Congress leadership not to harm farmers out of animosity towards his party.
