A floating bridge in Visakhapatnam broke down into three pieces at RK Beach just a day after its inauguration. Fortunately, no visitors were on the bridge when it broke away and washed about 100 meters into the sea. The bridge was inaugurated by Rajya Sabha MP YV Subba Reddy and IT Minister Gudivada Amarnath.

The design of the bridge was inspired by the floating Sea Bridge at Chavakkad Beach in Kerala. After a team from the Visakhapatnam Metro Regional Development Authority (VMRDA) visited Kerala and proposed the idea to the government, a private operator took on the installation and operation of the bridge. The VMRDA is expected to earn over Rs 15 lakh annually from this partnership.

VMRDA officials have refuted claims that the bridge washed away, stating that they will remove joints during high wave surges to prevent any damage.
