In a significant development, Deputy Mayor of Greater Hyderabad Mothe Srilatha Reddy and her husband, BRS’s Trader Union chairman Shobhan Reddy, officially joined the Congress party at a ceremony held at Gandhi Bhavan on Sunday. The event was attended by AICC incharge (TS) Deepa Dasmunshi, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, MPs B Mahesh Kumar Goud, M Anil Kumar Yadav, and many other party leaders.
Srilatha expressed her emotions by likening the move to returning to her mother’s house after leaving her in-laws. She highlighted their long association with BRS since its establishment in 2000 but felt that they did not receive the recognition they deserved within the party. She emphasized that their decision to join Congress was not influenced by any external pressures.
Shoban explained that his decision to leave BRS stemmed from the party’s failure to acknowledge the true leaders of the Telangana movement. He praised Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for taking steps to honor those who played a role in the struggle, which inspired him to join Congress with the hope of receiving proper recognition.
Minister Ponnam noted that individuals who felt marginalized within BRS were now aligning with Congress, highlighting the party’s commitment to offering deserving positions to its members.
