The Managing Director of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) recently met with officials to discuss drinking water supply and other issues. C Sudarshan Reddy, MD of HMWSSB, mentioned that the board will create detailed plans at the field level to ensure drinking water supply for the next five months. Emergency pumping arrangements have been made to transfer extra water if needed, and regular checks on water supplies to specific areas will be conducted to address any shortages promptly.

Currently, HMWSSB is providing 565 million gallons per day (MGD) of drinking water, but an additional 15 to 20 MGD may be required in the coming months. The MD instructed officials to have backup plans in case linemen are unavailable at the field level. Any issues like contaminated water supply or leaks should be identified and fixed within 24 hours, especially for motor, booster, and valve repairs, which should be handled under AMS protocols.

During the summer season when many rely on water tanker services, the number of tankers and trips will be increased based on demand. The water supply timing in high-demand areas will also be extended. The city currently has 72 freshwater supply filling stations for tanker needs. Additionally, a special drive will be organized by Chief Vigilance Officers to identify and take action against those abusing the system.
