Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president YS Sharmila announced that the Congress party will form an electoral alliance with Communist parties for the upcoming elections. She criticized the YSR Congress Party and the Telugu Desam Party for being aligned with the Bharatiya Janata Party and neglecting the rights of Andhra Pradesh.

Sharmila met with leaders of the Communist Party of India (CPI) and Communist Party of India-Marxists (CPM) to discuss their common goals. She invited Communist leaders to a public meeting addressed by Congress president Mallikarjuna Kharge on February 26 in Anatapur. The three parties are in talks about seat-sharing for the elections.

Sharmila also mentioned that if the Congress had come to power in 2014, Andhra Pradesh would have received special category status and completed the Polavaram project by now. She criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not fulfilling promises made regarding special category status during his visit to Tirupati.
