Studying women’s exclusion and discrimination is important, according to Professor Ishtiaque Ahmed from Maulana Azad National Urdu University. He believes that women need support to be included in society’s development for growth. This was discussed during a two-day national seminar called “Exploring Dynamics of Women’s Marginalisation in India: Challenges and Prospects,” organized by the Al Beruni Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy in collaboration with the Department of History on February 19 and 20.
The seminar had Professor Perwez Nazir from Aligarh Muslim University as the chief guest and Professor Rekha Pande, a former professor at the University of Hyderabad, as the guest of honor. Professor Y Chinna Rao from JNU, New Delhi, delivered the keynote speech, explaining the concept of “marginality” coined by Robert Park in the 1920s.
Other speakers at the seminar included Professor Perwez Nazir and Professor Rekha Pande. Professor Rafiullah Azmi, director of ACSSEIP, introduced the theme of the seminar. Many researchers like Professor Danish Moin, Dr Pervaiz Ahmad, Dr Kareem, Dr Abdul Thaha, Dr Ikram, Dr Khalid, and Dr Dawood were present. Over 25 research papers were presented during the event.
