Greater Warangal Mayor Gundu Sudharani is facing trouble from her own BRS leaders who are considering a no-confidence motion against her. This plan has been in the works since the Congress took control of the State, especially after six BRS Corporators switched to the Congress in January.
Many Corporators in the 66-member urban local body have been unhappy with Sudharani, accusing her of not addressing the issues faced by the residents. Despite their intentions to bring a no-confidence motion against her, they must wait three more months as per ULB rules which require at least three years in office before such a motion can be moved.
In light of these developments, several BRS Corporators have met with former Parkal MLA Challa Dharma Reddy to discuss their plans to oust the Mayor. Former BRS MLAs D Vinay Bhaskar and Nannapuneni Narender are also discontent with Sudharani, dating back to their time in power.
Reports suggest that Sudharani had approached Panchayat Raj Minister Seethakka for assistance in joining the Congress, but there seems to be hesitance from other party members like the Konda couple – Muralidhar Rao and Minister for Forests, Environment and Endowments Konda Surekha (Warangal East MLA) – to welcome her into the party.
A senior BRS leader, speaking anonymously to The Hans India, stated that Sudharani appears to be in a precarious position where neither BRS nor Congress is willing to support her.
