The Telangana Congress has decided not to accept any new members, even though many BRS leaders want to join. The party is in contact with leaders mainly from districts, but they are being cautious in order to avoid any negative impact. The ruling party is confident about their chances in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and is trying to take advantage of various schemes. Despite claims by Congress leaders that over 20 MLAs and other leaders from BRS will join their party, the Congress leadership is being careful not to disrupt the momentum from the Assembly polls.
Party sources indicate that although some BRS leaders in GHMC are joining the Congress, there is a strong desire among leaders in districts to join as well. They have enjoyed power for nearly a decade and do not want to accept being on the losing side. However, the Congress is currently not interested in accepting these new members as it may negatively affect the election outcome.
Some leaders have questioned the use of the term “poaching” since BRS leaders are voluntarily joining the Congress. They claim that the Congress is not actively trying to encourage defections but that BRS leaders are making their own decisions. The attitude of the BRS leadership is causing more Corporators like Baba Fasiuddin to join the Congress. The Congress respects the people’s verdict and is not making any efforts to encourage defections.
