Union Minister of Culture and Tourism G Kishan Reddy announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will soon inaugurate the new Charlapally railway terminal in Hyderabad. The modernisation work of the Secunderabad railway station is progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. The station will then be dedicated to the nation by Modi.
On Wednesday, Reddy inspected the ongoing work at the station and discussed its development with South Central Railway General Manager Anil Kumar Jain and senior officials. In a media statement, he expressed his satisfaction with the progress and mentioned that the Centre is committed to developing railway projects in Telangana.
The modernisation of Secunderabad station is being carried out in three phases with a budget of Rs.715 crore. The aim is to transform the station into a facility similar to an international airport. Apart from the station, other development works such as road widening are also being undertaken. The first phase of the project is progressing rapidly, although it could have been faster if construction was done in an open space. Nevertheless, the work is being carried out without causing any disruptions to train services and passengers.
Several amenities are being added to the station, including 26 lifts, 38 escalators, and retail shops. Efforts are also being made to connect the Metro and bus stations for the convenience of passengers. Reddy also mentioned other ongoing railway projects in Telangana, such as the modernisation of Nampally and Kazipet stations, the completion of the Gatkesar-Yadadri MMTS line, and the upcoming Komuravelli railway station for devotees visiting Lord KomuravelliMallanna.
Reddy highlighted the success of the Vande Bharat trains that started operating from Secunderabad, running at full capacity. He further revealed that they have requested the Railway Minister for two additional trains.
