Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited’s Managing Director, NVS Reddy, paid tribute to former union minister S Jaipal Reddy on his birth anniversary at Spoorthy Sthal, Necklace Road. Reddy acknowledged Jaipal Reddy’s role in getting the government of India’s approval and funding for the Hyderabad metro rail project.

Reddy mentioned that initially, the metro rail projects in Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Bangalore faced issues regarding the gauge. Indian Railways opposed the Metro Rail Corporations’ proposal to adopt the standard gauge (4’8″) used worldwide, insisting on the broader gauge (5’6″). This created problems for the upcoming metro rail projects.

Reddy also highlighted Jaipal Reddy’s strong support, which paved the way for the successful implementation of the Hyderabad Metro and other metro rail projects across the country.
