YS Sharmila, daughter of the late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, has been appointed as the President of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) after joining the Congress party. The Congress party, which had previously been hostile towards the YSR family, has now decided to honor them by giving Sharmila this position.
Sharmila had campaigned vigorously for her brother Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and even launched a padayatra when he was facing legal issues. However, she was unable to make a significant impact in Andhra Pradesh politics after Jagan came to power. In 2021, she started the YSRTP party in Telangana but faced financial difficulties and little support.
As the Telangana elections approached, the Congress convinced Sharmila to stay away from elections and promised her a better future in Andhra Pradesh. She then joined the Congress earlier this month, merging her YSR Telangana Party. Shortly after, she was nominated as the president of the party’s Andhra Pradesh unit.
Sharmila expressed her gratitude towards Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and others for trusting her with this position. She promised to work diligently in rebuilding the party in the State.
