There has been a rise in respiratory cases in different parts of the state. However, not many people need to go to the hospital. Doctors are recommending nasal cleaning and hygiene, especially for children.
The Indian Medical Association Telangana conducted a survey on the increase in respiratory cases. Dr. Pratibha, a senior doctor from Hyderabad, says there has definitely been a recent increase in respiratory cases, but most of them are self-limiting. Most people only have a cold, throat irritation, dry cough, and some discomfort and muscle pain. There are very few people with high fever. However, a few weeks ago, there was a peak in cases where people had fever followed by arthritis that lasted 4-8 weeks.
Dr. AP Praveen Kumar says there has been an increase in sore throats and cases of Parotitis. People who have never had wheezing before are experiencing cough with bronchospasm, which has been happening for the past five months after the monsoon. There is no evidence of an increased incidence of hypoxic patients.
Dr. Rajeswar, a respiratory medicine doctor from Nizamabad, says there are more cases of post-viral cough. Cases of bacterial consolidation have decreased due to dual antibiotic therapy on an outpatient basis.
Dr. Ahmed has seen many cases of flu-like symptoms that resolve with supportive treatment. Nebulizations are helping with cough that doesn’t go away. High-grade fever without a drop in oxygen levels is responding to fluvir. Hospitalization is very rare and only required when oxygen levels drop. Parotitis can be treated with Brufen and paracetamol.
Dr. Srisailam Kottooru, a pediatrician from Nizamabad, says there is an increase in respiratory cases with mild respiratory distress in children under two years old. Most of them are recovering without needing to be admitted to the hospital. Only a few cases require hospitalization and intensive care. Nasal cleaning and hygiene are important for infants. There has been a significant increase in cases of Parotitis in the past 15 days, with over 70 cases reported. Most of these cases are self-limiting, with only two people needing to be admitted. There has also been an increase in cases of viral diarrhea in the past week.
