A delegation of ministers, led by State Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, visited the Kaleshwaram project. This visit has caused a political controversy in the state, with the ruling Congress party confident that they can gain support by highlighting corruption in the project and criticizing the previous government’s construction methods. The Congress party is particularly concerned about the poor maintenance of the Medigadda barrage and Annaram and Sundilla pump houses. They plan to expose the government’s excessive spending on the project by pointing out inconsistencies in the project report. However, the BRS (opposition party) is prepared to defend themselves against these allegations and argue that the Kaleshwaram project has brought positive changes to irrigation in Telangana. They claim that the project has made Telangana one of the largest paddy-producing states in the country in a short amount of time.
