In preparation for New Year’s Eve celebrations on December 31, 2023, the Cyberabad police have announced traffic restrictions. The Nehru Outer Ring Road will be closed from 10 pm to 5 am for most vehicles, except for those heading towards the Airport. Similarly, the PVNR Expressway will only be open for Airport-bound vehicles during the same time period. Additionally, all major flyovers, including Shilpa Layout, Gachibowli, Bio-diversity, Shaikpet, Mind Space, Road No 45, Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge, Cyber tower, Forum Mall-JNTU, Kaithalapur, Babu Jagjivan Ram, and AMB Flyover, will be closed from 11 pm to 5 am.
To ensure the safety of passengers, the police have directed cab drivers to wear their uniform and carry all necessary documents. Refusing a ride to the public is against the law and can result in a penalty of Rs 500. Any complaints regarding refusal can be reported through WhatsApp with details of the vehicle, time, and place.
Bar/pub/club owners have been instructed to educate their customers about the dangers of drunk driving and make alternative travel arrangements. They will be held responsible if their customers drive under the influence of alcohol and will face legal consequences for abetting the crime.
Driving without a valid license or allowing a minor to drive will lead to the detention of the vehicle, and both the owner and driver will be prosecuted in court. The traffic police will also take strict action against rash driving, overspeeding, excessive honking, dangerous driving, and triple/multiple riding. Drunk drivers will be booked under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act and sent to court.
Special cameras have been installed by the Cyberabad police to detect violations such as speeding, wrong routes, signal jumping, rash driving, and riding without a helmet. Extensive checks for drunk driving will be conducted on all roads in the Cyberabad limits starting from 8 pm.
