The BRS party, which had been in power in Telangana for two terms, faced a setback in the recent elections. Their number of seats dropped from 88 in 2018 to a low of 39 in 2023, with six ministers losing their positions. However, the party was able to retain most seats in Hyderabad.
The ministers who were defeated include S Niranjan Reddy, V Srinivas Goud, E Dayakar Rao, Koppula Eshwar, AIndrakaran Reddy, and Puvvada Ajay. Local residents believe that their arrogance played a role in their defeat. In Mahbubnagar, there were allegations that Srinivas Goud’s brother had threatened villagers and used the police against them. Indrakaran Reddy, Dayakar Rao, and Ajay Kumar were accused of neglecting their party members.
On the other hand, ministers like KT Rama Rao, T Harish Rao, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, P Sabitha Indra Reddy, G Jagadish Reddy, V Prashanth Reddy, G Kamalakar, Ch Malla Reddy, Speaker P Srinivas Reddy, and deputy T Padma Rao Goud were able to retain their seats.
It is worth noting that out of the 12 Congress MLAs who had joined the BRS in the past, only two were successful in the election. The remaining nine faced defeat, indicating public dissatisfaction with their decision to switch parties.
Interestingly, most of the candidates chosen by the BRS were able to win, except in one constituency. K Vijeyudu won from Alampur after replacing Abraham. Similarly, PallaRajeshwar Reddy won in Jangaon after MuthireddyYadagiri Reddy was changed. Kadiyam Srihari replaced T Rajaiah and emerged victorious from Station Ghanpur.
In other changes, Sunitha Lakshma Reddy won from Narsapur, Dr Sanjay won from Koratla, AtramSakku won from Asifabad, Kotha Prabhakar Reddy was successful in Dubbaka, Badaru Lakshma Reddy won in Uppal, and Marri Rajshekhar Reddy emerged victorious. However, two changed candidates, JohonsonBhukya Naik and ChelmedaLakshminarasimha Rao, were unsuccessful in their respective constituencies.
