With only one day left until the poll results are announced, there are different opinions within the BJP about their performance. The BJP has been claiming that they will form the government in Telangana, but the numbers don’t support this claim. Some doubt whether the party will play a significant role in the State Assembly.
The party has mentioned their improved vote share in previous by-polls and the GHMC elections as a basis for their confidence. However, one party leader believes that the circumstances have changed and they cannot rely solely on past performance to guarantee a majority.
The party’s momentum had decreased for about three months before the change of the State party chief, causing a delay in their progress. Despite this, they have regained some momentum as an emerging force against the ruling party.
Most of the party’s hopes to improve their tally come from Northern Telangana, with only a few seats expected from the GHMC area. Additionally, the party made a unique move by announcing a BC Chief Minister and promising sub-categorisation of SC reservations to benefit the majority Madiga population within the SCs. However, it is uncertain how much this will benefit the party politically.
The party’s vote share growth in post-Assembly by-polls and the GHMC elections will also be tested.
