Hyderabad: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi made promises to help Gig workers, GHMC workers, and auto drivers during a detailed interaction with representatives of these workers in the Jubilee Hills constituency.
In the meeting, Gandhi promised insurance and a welfare board for Gig workers, regularized salaries and timely increments for GHMC sanitation workers, and various benefits for auto drivers including a yearly payment of Rs 12,000, reduction of pending challans by 50%, implementation of a single permit policy, and the formation of a Welfare Board.
Before the manifesto was released, the associations representing these workers had already presented their demands to Congress party leaders. The interaction on Tuesday was meant to reassure the workers that the party is serious about addressing their issues and will resolve them once in power in Telangana.
Gandhi also assured Gig workers that the Gig Workers Act from Rajasthan will be implemented in Telangana as well. On his way to a public meeting in Nampally, Gandhi even traveled to the venue in an auto-rickshaw. There are an estimated 3 to 4 lakh Gig workers in Telangana who work for companies like Ola, Uber, Swiggy, Zomato, and Amazon. Minister MA & UD and BRS working president K T Rama Rao had also promised a ‘Tripartite Welfare Board’ for Gig workers after his own interaction with them.
