Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, G Kishan Reddy, expressed shock over the fire accident in a chemical godown in Nampally on Sunday. He visited the site and met with the victims, calling the incident unfortunate.
According to initial reports from the police, the accident occurred due to firecrackers in a chemical godown located near a residential area. Nine people died in the area, which consists of 16 plots near the godown.
Kishan Reddy had previously written letters to the State Chief Secretary and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Commission, urging them to take action against the repeated occurrence of fire accidents caused by chemical godowns in residential areas. However, no action was taken, and he blamed the state government’s negligence for allowing such accidents to happen.
He questioned why unauthorized godowns were allowed to operate in residential areas and demanded that the state government provide financial assistance to the families of the victims. He also called for the government to take strict action against all unauthorized godowns in Hyderabad.
