Nandikanti Sridhar, the Malkajgiri DCC president and a former contestant from the constituency in 2014, has resigned from his position and the primary membership of the party. Sridhar was disappointed when MLA Mynampally Hanumanth Rao joined the party and was given two tickets, including one for his son from Medak, which dashed Sridhar’s hopes of getting the Malkajgiri seat.

Sridhar had previously contested from the party in 2014 but lost to C Kanaka Reddy (BRS). In 2018, when the seat was allotted to the Telangana Jana Samithi as part of the ‘Mahakutami’, Sridhar protested against it.

In his resignation letter to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, Sridhar expressed his disappointment with the party for not considering the backward classes (BCs) while allotting tickets for the upcoming Assembly polls. He reminded Kharge about the party’s Udaipur declaration, which states that only one person per family should be given a ticket to contest. However, in Malkajgiri and Medak, a single family has been given two tickets – one for Hanumanth Rao and one for his son.

Sridhar also questioned how the Malkajgiri legislator was welcomed into the party, as he had not only harassed Congress cadre but also filed cases against them. He pointed out that Congress supporters in Malkajgiri have fought for justice against Rao and now it is being considered to give tickets to newly joined leaders from BRS.

Sridhar emphasized his loyalty to the party since 1994 and his dedication and sincerity without switching parties. He mentioned that he belongs to the BC community and has been striving hard to obtain a ticket since 2018 but was denied one (given to an ally) despite his hard work.
