Farmers in Khammam, Telangana are frustrated with the government’s incomplete implementation of the loan waiver promised during the elections five years ago. Around 70% of farmers are still waiting for their loans to be waived. To address this issue, the Rythu Sangam district unit organized a protest at the SBI and Union Bank offices in Wyra. They demanded that the government fully implement the loan waiver of Rs 1 lakh by December 11, 2018, without any exceptions.

Bonthu Rambabu, the district secretary of Rythu Sangam, highlighted that the Chief Minister had made promises of loan waivers to secure votes and come into power. However, even farmers who had borrowed Rs 50,000 have not had their loans waived. Despite approaching the banks regularly, they have not received any relief. Rambabu emphasized that farmers who trusted the Chief Minister’s words and repaid their bank loans are also not receiving the loan waivers they were promised.

Rambabu further explained that some farmers are facing issues with their loan waiver money due to typographical errors in their names registered in bank accounts and Aadhaar cards. He urged the government to resolve these confusion and implement the full loan waiver as announced by the KCR government.

The protest in Wyra was attended by various leaders of the Telangana Rythu Sangam, including Mallempati Rama Rao, Meda Sarabandhi, Secretary Kilaru Srinivasa Rao, CPM Wyra Mandal Secretary Thota Nageswara Rao, and Farmer Sangam Leaders Kuruguntla Srinivasa Rao.
