Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao expressed concern over the possibility of a decrease in seats for southern states in the delimitation process. He warned that this could lead to a strong people’s movement in southern India. The concern arose from a media report suggesting that seats in the southern states may be reduced based on population numbers.

According to a media organization, the current allotment of seats for states is loosely based on the 1971 census. If seats are revised according to projected population for 2026, some states may gain more seats while others may lose out. Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, for example, may see a decrease of eight seats from their current 42. On the other hand, states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh could gain additional seats.

In response to this situation, KT Rama Rao emphasized that they are proud Indians and representatives of the best performing states in the country. He stated that they will not remain silent if the voices and representation of their people are suppressed in the highest democratic forum of the country. He expressed hope that wisdom would prevail and Delhi would listen to their concerns.
