Descendants of Nizam VII have requested the Election Commission of India to stop political parties from using their ancestor for political gain. Himayat Ali Mirza, the great grandson of Nizam VII, expressed his concern about how politicians in Telangana portray his ancestor as a villain during elections. He questioned why Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who aligns closely with the BJP, would appoint Nizam as the first Governor of Andhra Pradesh if he was a traitor. Despite their pleas, no action has been taken to address this issue.

Mohammad Safiullah, the managing trustee of Deccan Heritage Trust, referred to a book called ‘Operation Polo’ which states that the accession of Hyderabad State to the Indian Union took place in January 1950, not September 1948 as claimed. Amjed Ullah Khan, a leader of the MBT, accused the BJP, BRS, and AIMIM of distorting the history of Hyderabad by celebrating ‘Liberation Day’ on September 17. He believes that marking this day as a ‘liberation’ or ‘Integration’ day not only distorts historical facts but also threatens the harmony of the city.

Khan emphasized that Hyderabad has always been a part of the Indian subcontinent’s cultural, political, and historical fabric. He mentioned dynasties like the Mauryan Empire, Satavahanas, Vakatakas, Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, and Kakatiyas that have contributed to the region’s rich history and culture. He also noted the establishment of Muslim rule in the Deccan with the Delhi Sultanate in the 13th century.
