Customs Air Intelligence officers at the Hyderabad airport have arrested a passenger and an airport staff member for smuggling 933 grams of gold worth Rs 56.63 lakh. The passenger arrived from Dubai and the gold was found in his luggage. It was discovered that the airport staff member was assisting in the smuggling operation. The seized gold was confiscated and the passenger was detained. An investigation is ongoing.
In another case, officials foiled an attempt to smuggle 206 grams of gold from a passenger who arrived from Dubai. The gold was hidden inside a popcorn making machine. The seized gold is valued at Rs 12.57 lakh.
