The Delhi government has announced that all schools will be closed from September 7 to September 10 due to the G20 meeting. However, education department staff are required to stay in the city during this time. The government has stated that if any manpower is needed during the program, education department staff will be assigned the task and must remain in the city for four days.
The G20 Leaders Summit will take place on September 9-10 at Pragati Maidan’s newly built International Convention and Exhibition Center, Bharat Mandapam. The government has declared September 8-10 as a public holiday in Delhi-NCR due to the summit, and September 7 is already a gazetted holiday for Janmashtami. The Education Department employees have been asked to stay in the city considering the importance of the program and the potential need for their services.
The circular issued by the government also states that all employees must be reachable by phone at all times and no outstation leave will be permitted during this time. This is because their services may be required at any moment. The circular urges all officers and staff of the Education Department to take note of these instructions and ensure their presence in Delhi during the G20 Summit.
India, as the current chair of the G20, will host the summit, which will be attended by more than 30 heads of state, officials from the European Union and invited guest countries, and presidents of 14 international organizations. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi will monitor the designated roads leading to the conference to ensure cleanliness. Engineering department workers and sweepers will be working on approximately 80 key roads for more than eight hours each day until September 10.
