Hyderabad: Singireddy Niranjan Reddy, the Agriculture Minister, emphasized the need for the agriculture sector in India to become a professional industry. He believes that only then will the farming community become self-reliant and more young people will be attracted to farming as a profession.
During his second day of the US tour to study the farm sector, Reddy visited Long View Farms in Ayova on Wednesday. His goal is to elevate the farm sector in Telangana to a global level. He believes that in order to achieve this, farming must become more profitable and cost-effective, so that future generations are interested in adopting agriculture as a profession.
After visiting Long View Farms, Reddy was surprised to see highly educated owners continuing agriculture as a profession for generations by using advanced machinery. He noted that the American agriculture sector and the Indian farming sector are very different. In the US, farming is more corporate-like, with the use of sophisticated machinery and large-scale operations over thousands of acres. Reddy acknowledged that it would be challenging for India to adopt the same model.
