The district Collector Valluri Kranti has urged senior citizens to teach younger generations about the value of voting. They should share their experiences and explain the importance of voting in a democratic society. This request was made during the International Senior Citizen’s Day celebrations in the IDOC.
The Collector also emphasized the need for peaceful and transparent elections, as instructed by the Election Commission. She called on all citizens to exercise their right to vote and encouraged youth to respect their elders. There have been cases of mistreatment of seniors by family members, which needs to be addressed.
It is important for family members to take care of senior citizens, and arrangements should be made for their convenience during elections. Wheelchairs should be provided, and voting systems should be accessible for citizens above 80 years old, as per the Election Commission’s instructions.
An awareness program was conducted to educate senior citizens about the voting system and special provisions available for them. The Collector also explained the functioning of electronic voting machines and other equipment. A draft of the voter list has been released, and it is necessary to check the votes of the elderly.
During the event, senior citizens like Raman Goud, Baswaraj, and Govindamma shared their experiences and offered suggestions for improving polling centers. Govindamma emphasized the importance of electing honest leaders without any obligations. The senior citizens were honored with shawls and mementos by the district Collector.
The event was attended by Additional Collectors Cheerla Srinivas Sagar, Apoorva Chauhan, ZP CEO Mushahida Begum, and other district officials.
