The Kejriwal government in New Delhi will conduct an energy audit of its buildings, offices, and streetlights to reduce electricity usage and improve energy efficiency. Power Minister Atishi Marlena has stated that the government is committed to conserving electricity. The energy audit will focus on government buildings using more than 500 KW of electricity. It will assess energy consumption, compare it to the minimum required, and provide recommendations to save electricity and money.
Saving one unit of electricity is equivalent to generating two units at the power plant. Therefore, the energy-saving solutions from the audits will help improve Delhi’s overall electricity consumption and stabilize demand. The energy audit will not only reduce energy usage in government buildings but also lessen the financial burden and CO2 emissions.
The Delhi Government’s Electricity Department has prioritized energy audits under Mission @ 2023. Besides government buildings, street lighting will also be audited. The MCD, NDMC, and PWD currently maintain streetlights and are replacing them with low-energy LED lights.
Power Minister Atishi emphasizes that this energy audit highlights the government’s commitment to energy saving and efficiency. It demonstrates good governance and environmental protection by identifying unnecessary electricity consumption and implementing practical solutions. All government buildings with a sanctioned load of 500 kW or more will be audited by certified energy auditors from the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE).
