Hyderabad has achieved first place in the country for recovering lost or stolen mobile devices. The State has a recovery rate of 67.98 percent, which is the highest in the country. This achievement was made possible through the use of the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal.

Director-General of Police, Anjani Kumar, congratulated the nodal officer, Additional Director-General of Police, CID, Mahesh M Bhagwat, and his team for their efforts in achieving this milestone. The CEIR portal was developed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to combat mobile theft and counterfeit devices. It was launched nationwide in May of this year, but it was piloted in Telangana in April 2023.

The CEIR portal is now operational in all 780 police stations or units across the State. In just 110 days, a total of 5,038 lost or stolen mobile devices were recovered. The last 1,000 devices were recovered in just 16 days and returned to their rightful owners.

Telangana stands first in the country with a recovery rate of 67.98 percent. Karnataka follows with a recovery rate of 54.20 percent, and Andhra Pradesh comes in third with a recovery rate of 50.90 percent.

Within Telangana, the Cyberabad police Commissionerate made a significant contribution with 763 recovered mobile devices. The Hyderabad Commissionerate recovered 402 devices, followed by the Rachakonda Commissionerate with 398 devices. Other Commissionerates, such as Warangal and Nizamabad, also made notable recoveries.

To make it easier for users and improve efficiency, the Telangana police have integrated the CEIR portal with the TS Police Citizen Portal. This integration allows citizens to report lost or missing mobile devices through the Police Citizen Portal instead of visiting Mee-Seva or police stations. This service aims to be more user-friendly and convenient for the citizens of Telangana.
