    The SR&BGNR Government Arts and Science College in Khammam is the first degree college in the former Khammam district. It is also the first degree college in the country to receive National Assessment and Accreditation (NAAC) with a 3.64 Cumulative Mark Point Average (CGPA) A++ mark for the current accreditation cycle.

    The college, named Sri Rama and Bhaktha Gentela Narayana Rao (SR&BGNR) College, was established in 1956 with a donation of Rs 10,00,000 from Gentela Narayana Rao. It is spread across 70 acres of land and offers 54 groups in degree and postgraduate courses. There are approximately 4,000 undergrad and 800 postgraduate students studying in the institution.

    The college has 104 experienced faculty members, with 50 of them having PhDs. It was granted autonomy in 2015-16 and has received B++ grades in all three NAAC accreditation cycles. The college has published 50 research papers and aims to maintain its reputation with the best institutional values and practices.

    Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar, a college graduate, expressed pride in the college’s achievements and emphasized the Telangana government’s focus on higher education. SUDA Chairman Bachu Vijay Kumar, an alumnus of the college, mentioned that over 40,000 graduates have been produced by the institution.

    Many alumni of the college have excelled in their studies overseas and have gone on to become scientists, engineers, and political leaders. The alumni assembly recently decided to erect a life-size bronze statue of the college founder on the campus grounds and proposed naming a road stretch after him.

    Prominent graduates of the college include Telangana Rythu Bandhu Samithi president MLC Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, district BRS president MLC Tata Madhusudhan, and Rajya Sabha member Dr Bandi Parthasarathi Reddy.
