Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was given back his old government bungalow on Tuesday, August 8. This happened a day after his Lok Sabha membership was restored. The Housing Committee returned the bungalow that had been taken by Delhi’s 12 Tughlaqs. When he received the bungalow, Rahul Gandhi exclaimed, “Mera ghar Hindustan hai.”

On Friday, August 4, the Supreme Court stayed Rahul Gandhi’s conviction in a defamation case involving the Modi surname. As a result, his Lok Sabha membership was restored and he also regained possession of the bungalow.

Earlier, on March 23, Rahul Gandhi had been sentenced to two years in prison in the Modi surname case by a court in Surat, Gujarat. This led to his Lok Sabha membership being revoked by the Lok Sabha Secretariat. He was then sent a notice to vacate the government residence. Rahul Gandhi appealed to the High Court in the defamation case, but his request was denied. Finally, the Supreme Court ruled in his favor. Rahul Gandhi currently serves as the Member of Parliament for Wayanad in Kerala.
