The Supreme Court has made a significant judgment in the Modi surname case. Rahul Gandhi’s punishment has been stayed, and he is now allowed to be a member of Parliament again. This decision has led to reactions from various political groups. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal congratulated Rahul Gandhi and praised the Supreme Court’s judgment.
Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “I welcome the decision of the Honorable Supreme Court in the unfair defamation case against Rahul Gandhi. It increases people’s trust in India’s democracy and judicial system. Congratulations to Rahul Gandhi and the people of Wayanad.”
A bench of Justices BR Gavai, PS Narasimha, and Sanjay Kumar heard the case and stated that although the words used were not good, a person in public life should exercise discretion when giving speeches. Since the trial judge did not provide a rationale for imposing the maximum punishment, the order of conviction has been stayed until the final judgment.
Congress leader Pawan Kheda expressed his satisfaction with the court’s decision. He said, “Today we are all filled with energy. We expected justice, and justice has been served. Wait and see, only Rahul Gandhi will become a juggler. The truth has prevailed, and people’s faith in the judiciary has been strengthened.”
