Hyderabad City Police, in collaboration with Prajwala, an anti-trafficking organization, conducted a joint event called the “awakening vigil” at Tank Bund to raise awareness about human trafficking. More than 300 Prajwala volunteers and police personnel, led by Joint Commissioner of Police Dr. Gajarao Bhupal and Sunitha Krishnan, participated in the vigil. The main message of the vigil was the need for collective action to fight against trafficking.

The “World Day Against Trafficking in Persons” is a United Nations declared day that aims to raise awareness about human trafficking and urge governments, law enforcement, public services, and civil society to strengthen their efforts in prevention, victim support, and ending impunity. This year’s theme is “reach every victim of trafficking, leave no one behind”.

The City Police have been proactive in protecting victims and have established “Bharosa,” a unique initiative that provides comprehensive support to victims of gender-based violence. They have also launched SHE teams to prevent and deter crimes against women.

Prajwala is a well-known anti-trafficking organization founded by Sunitha Krishnan. They focus on prevention, rescue, rehabilitation, reintegration, and advocacy. So far, they have helped rescue over 28,200 victims of sex trafficking and provide them with holistic rehabilitation. Their efforts have been recognized by the Government of India through the prestigious “National Award for Child Welfare.”
