Efforts by the Telangana State Directorate of Sainik Welfare have helped the widow of Sergeant PVNR Prasad from the Indian Air Force to receive a monetary allowance. Sgt Prasad lost his life during the Kargil War in May 1999 while fighting against Pakistan. He was honored with the Vayusena Medal for his bravery. However, his wife, Anuradha, did not receive any official notification or letter from the Indian Air Force regarding the monetary allowance.
Colonel Ramesh Kumar, the director of the Telangana State Directorate of Sainik Welfare, discovered Sgt Prasad’s name while researching online information about gallantry award winners in the Indian Air Force. When contacted, Anuradha was unaware that she was eligible for a monetary allowance for her late husband’s gallantry award.
Colonel Ramesh Kumar took up the issue with the Indian Air Force Headquarters and expedited the process. As a result, the Pension Payment Order for the monetary allowance was approved on July 17. The amount, along with the arrears since Sgt Prasad’s death, will be deposited into Anuradha’s bank account soon. Additionally, she will receive a monthly amount along with her pension.
It is worth mentioning that this approval comes just before the 24th Kargil Day Vijay Diwas, which is celebrated on July 26 each year.
