Former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and official Vinod Tomar have been granted bail in an alleged sexual harassment case filed by six women wrestlers. The Delhi Court allowed their release on a personal bond of Rs. 25,000 each, but imposed conditions such as not leaving the country without court permission and not tampering with evidence or influencing witnesses.
Earlier in the day, the court reserved its order after hearing arguments from all parties. The prosecution did not oppose or support the bail application but requested that it be dealt with according to the law. The complainants’ counsel opposed the bail application and expressed concerns about the accused’s influence on the wrestlers.
Singh and Tomar’s lawyers assured the court that they would comply with all the conditions set for bail. The next hearing is scheduled for July 28. Previously, the court granted interim bail to the accused for two days based on a Supreme Court judgment.
The FIR in this case was registered by the Delhi police on April 28 after intervention from the Supreme Court. A charge sheet was filed on June 15, and the court took cognizance of the chargesheet on July 7. Singh was charged under sections 354, 354A, and 354D of the Indian Penal Code, while Tomar faced charges under sections 354, 354A, 109, and 506 of the IPC.
The charge sheet stated that out of 108 witnesses examined, 15 had corroborated the allegations against Singh and Tomar. The police mentioned in the charge sheet that a supplementary charge sheet would be filed once forensic results and call data records analysis were available.
Additionally, Singh is facing another FIR filed by a minor, but she later changed her statement. The police filed a cancellation report in the second FIR on June 15, which is pending before a POCSO court. The court has asked for a response from the minor wrestler and her family regarding the cancellation report, and the case will be further heard on August 1.
