The Telangana State Police faced criticism after they arrested G Kishan Reddy, the Union Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Development of North East Region (DoNER) and Telangana State BJP chief. The police stopped the minister’s convoy from proceeding to Batasingaram, where he was supposed to visit a double-bedroom housing project for the poor. Despite the scheduled plan, the police took him into custody. This action led to strong objections from BJP leaders.
Kishan Reddy expressed his disappointment by sitting on the road and staging a protest in the rain. The police then arrested him without disclosing their destination. This angered the BJP cadre and leaders even more. The police took the minister’s convoy through different places in the city, without giving any information about where they were taking him. BJP MLA Raghunandan Rao condemned the arrest, emphasizing that it is wrong to treat a union cabinet minister like a common criminal.
Another BJP leader criticized the police for misusing their power on the orders of their political superiors. They compared the treatment of the minister to that of a criminal being shifted from one station to another without disclosing the destination.
