Maheshwaram Assembly constituency is part of the Chevella Lok Sabha segment. The current MLA is Sabitha Indra Reddy from the BRS party. The Congress party is trying to gather votes in the upcoming election. The constituency has over 4.5 lakh voters and includes Maheshwaram, Kandukur, Osman Nagar, and part of Saroornagar. It has seen growth in commercial and real estate due to its proximity to Hyderabad. Most voters in this constituency are from weaker sections of society.

In the previous election in 2018, Sabitha Indra Reddy from the INC won, defeating Teegala Krishna Reddy from BRS. In the 2014 Assembly elections, Teegala Krishna Reddy from TDP won, while Malreddy Ranga Reddy from INC came second, and Kotha Manohar Reddy from BRS came third. In the 2018 election, Sabitha Indra Reddy from INC won again, followed by Teegala Krishna Reddy from BRS and Angela Sriramulu from BJP.

There is a rift within the BRS party, with Teegala Krishna Reddy planning to join BJP. In the upcoming election, Congress candidates Charla Narsimarrddy and Deepa Bhasker Reddy, as well as BJP’s Angela Sriramlu and Vidender Goud, will provide tough competition.

Residents of Maheshwaram have concerns about unresolved issues in the constituency, especially in minority areas like Kandukur and Saroornagar. These areas face drinking water shortage every summer. There is also a need for better road connectivity that has been pending for a long time. Encroachment on water bodies, particularly the Osman Nagar lake, is causing problems during monsoon as water enters residents’ houses.
