Hyderabad: Telangana’s Information Technology and Industries Minister, KTR, declared that the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project is proving to be a lifeline for farmers in the Godavari river basin. Despite the sluggish monsoon season, the project is successfully addressing the water needs of the agricultural community, as stated by KTR on his Twitter account on Friday.
With the help of 10 pumping stations, including the Kondapochamma Sagar, which is currently pumping water from a height of 88 meters to 618 meters, the project is ensuring a steady supply of water to the region. The pumping stations are equipped with powerful motors that are capable of reversing the flow of water, enabling efficient irrigation practices.
Additionally, KTR revealed that water is also being pumped through the Varadakaluva reservoir to the SRSP (Sri Ram Sagar Project) canal, further augmenting the water supply to the region. This multi-pronged approach is aimed at ensuring that farmers have access to sufficient water for their agricultural needs.
The Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, which is one of the largest lift irrigation projects in Asia, has been hailed as a game-changer for Telangana’s agricultural sector. It aims to provide irrigation water to over 37 lakh acres of land across 13 districts in the state. The project not only addresses the water scarcity issue but also helps in stabilizing agricultural production and improving farmers’ livelihoods.
The successful operation of the project during a delayed monsoon season highlights its robustness and efficiency. It showcases Telangana’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and its ability to overcome challenges posed by unpredictable weather patterns.
The state government’s investment in irrigation infrastructure has been a major factor in achieving these positive outcomes. The Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, along with other initiatives such as Mission Kakatiya and Mission Bhagiratha, has significantly contributed to the state’s efforts in ensuring water availability for irrigation and drinking purposes.
Telangana’s proactive approach towards water management has received widespread appreciation from experts and stakeholders. The state’s focus on harnessing water resources and implementing innovative solutions has set an example for other regions facing similar challenges.
As Telangana continues to prioritize the welfare of its farmers and work towards sustainable agriculture, the success of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project stands as a testament to the state’s determination and resilience. With the project’s continued operation, farmers in the Godavari river basin can look forward to a prosperous future, irrespective of the uncertainties posed by the monsoon season.
