The intermediate students will now be tested in the form of practicals, similar to the IELTS process. Students must prepare for aspects of listening, speaking, reading, and writing so that their English language proficiency can be assessed.
With the beginning of the new Academic calendar, the students will have English language practical exams based on the International English Language Testing System, otherwise known as IELTS. The Telangana Board of Intermediate Education has released a handout with details on English Practical exams for Intermediate First Year students from 2023-224.
As a public exam, this practical exam will be worth 20 points, while theory papers will be worth 80 points. The Exam is designed to help students improve their English language skills as they become more familiar with the subject and gain insights into native grammar and other areas. Because IELTS is now officially part of the curriculum, it is mandatory for an intermediate student to take both practical and theory exams, the results of which will be reflected in their overall score.
Currently, students attend practicals for stream subjects and vocational courses; however, the administration will need to implement IELTS as a practical subject by installing labs and providing students with the resources necessary to perform the exam like a regular test. The students will be trained for – Listening, Reading, Writing, and speaking skills relating to English.
Colleges will need to set up facilities so that students can use computer labs or personal devices to check their pronunciation and Grammatical errors.
