The Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, has given approval to cut down and transplant 78 trees to make space for a new maintenance shed for the Vande Bharat train. The construction of the shed in Shakur Basti was being hindered by the presence of trees on the site.

The Indian Railways then requested the Delhi Government’s Environment and Forest Department for permission to remove and transplant the trees. The request was accepted with a condition that the Railways must plant 780 new trees. The Chief Minister’s Office stated that the Railways had asked to transplant 70 trees and remove eight trees.
