Residents of Safilguda in Hyderabad are requesting the South Central Railway (SCR) to reopen the railway gate that was closed in February. The closure of the gate has forced residents to travel an additional 3 kilometers. This has affected many colonies in the eastern part of the city including Balram Nagar, West Krishnanagar, Sitaram Nagar, Devi Nagar, Sainik Nagar, RK Puram village, Adarsh Nagar, Siddhartha Nagar, and LB Nagar.
The Federation of Malkajgiri Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and residents from various colonies held a meeting on Sunday to discuss this issue. They had previously approached SCR officials about reopening the gate but were informed that it was closed for the extension of station platforms for MMTS trains and would not be reopened in the future.
During the meeting, Noor, President of the Suburban Bus and Train Travels Association, proposed a potential solution. He suggested developing a road under the railway rainwater culvert near Sitaram Nagar that would lead to the Safilguda gate on the other side of the track.
Sanjeeva Rao, a senior official from the Railway Engineering Department, attended the meeting and assured his cooperation. He provided a draft drawing of the road that needs to be developed to the state and central officials, showing his commitment to addressing the issue.
